Gladiator 2 is gonna bomb. It's got like a 300 or 400 million dollar budget and I don't think viewers trust Ridley Scott anymore. He's so inconsistent, and outside of The Last Duel hasn't been great for a while. I say that as someone that didn't care for The Martian though.

The only factor that could save it, and help it do well domestically is Denzel. He's one of the few genuine draws left.

I’m a bit more friendly when it comes to Ridley Scott, but there is no way “Gladiator 2” is going to do well, and I actually find the original to be one of the weakest of his acclaimed films.

I got to say 6 million is disappointing for Maxxxine. It was tracking for 10-11 million and barely made half.

With a few exceptions, this hasn't been the strongest year for horror as far as box office revenue is concerned.

I had to let Horizon settle after I watched it. I came to the conclusion I enjoyed the promise of it.

Is this something that I should definitely see in theaters? Because I'm considering going today, but not sure if I want to burn three hours when I could just catch it on streaming pretty soon (or sooner via the Seven Seas)

It’s a good film and while I think anything looks and sounds better in a theater but ultimately, it’s fine to just enjoy what is essentially an episodic miniseries of a Costner western once it hits the cock or max.

The first act is definitely worth seeing in a theater. The rest is a lot slower.

That's a big debut for "Longlegs". For comparison: outside of "Civil War", this movie had a bigger debut than any of A24's movies, a bigger debut than any of their horror movies, is the biggest debut for Neon, the biggest debut for an R rated horror movie this year, biggest debut for an original horror movie this year and outside of "A Quiet Place: Day One" the biggest debut for a horror movie this year. I love to see it.

Next two weeks should be more competitive, with "Twisters" and "Deadpool and Wolverine" coming out. The big movies in August seem to be

-Harold and the Purple Crayon
-The Trap (M. Night's new movie)
-Cuckoo (another horror movie from Neon)
-It Ends With Us
-Borderlands
-Alien: Romulus
-The Crow
-The Forge (movie for more religious audiences)
-Reagan (lol)
-AfrAId
-more Fathom events showings ("Ponyo", "Lawrence of Arabia", "Coraline" and "Whisper of the Heart")

Dear lord, we might have a new worst title of all time contender.
Thought the same thing. It's good to see John Cho get work, but he deserves better.

There's no way "Harold and the Purple Crayon" becomes a hit, right?

I'd be surprised but kids can push the right movie into re-watch territory and there is a fandom for Zack Levi.

The Crow is the one movie this summer I'm most curious about seeing its box office numbers. I expect it to flop but if it has a low enough budget, I think it could just be a minor flop or maybe even break even. I don't think it'll be profitable but Morbius, for all its badness, still ended up doing 2.2X its budget so I dunno anymore.

I have a feeling "The Crow" is going to bomb. I don't actually have a problem with them remaking it (it's not like the sequels did the original any favor), but I have yet to see anyone actually feel excited about it.

I also have a feeling "Borderlands" is gonna bomb. The production history wasn't pretty, it's been delayed for a while and early reactions haven't been kind.

There's zero buzz for The Crow and 99% of its audience probably didn't know (or care) that it's release date got pushed from June to August. I'm curious about seeing it as well but I'm expecting a full bomb. I see it in the level as the Point Break remake. Entirely unnecessary and will be forgotten rather quickly.

the crow looks like a hilariously bad movie. I won't see it in theater but I look forward to hate watching it on streaming. My brother's reaction to the trailer was one of my favourite things this year.

Things that need remade:

Movies that had an amazing premise but had lackluster special effects due to the year it was worked on and/or the cast was not up to doing the film justice. Note: Not all movies that fit this criteria need to be remade either.

Things that do not need remade:

Movies that are iconic and nearly universally loved no matter the year in which it was made.

The Crow, Road House, The Karate Kid, and Point Break did not need to be remade.

The Karate Kid remake was actually a big hit but I think it's mostly been forgotten to the success of Cobra Kai. They're actually releasing a movie with both Ralph Maccio and Jackie Chan's characters and combining the two universes which sounds pretty cool.

I actually didn't mind the Karate Kid remake and thought, at the very least, the movie tried to tweak things and make it its own version but to me it was like a decent cover to a good song. The cover isn't necessary and may be fine enough but the original is so good/great that it's hard to judge the cover on its own merits.

Despicable Me 4 is zeroing in on $700 Million globally (sitting about $23 Million away).

Inside Out 2 has topped $1.5 Billion(!) globally and still has Japan coming on 8/1. It's made almost as much domestically, $613 Million, as DM4 has made globally thus far which is bonkers.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" broke some records. I think with this and the news at SDCC, Marvel is back.

Good to see "Longlegs" is still in there, and "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" is still making money.

lol at "Harold and the Purple Crayon". "Trap" did slightly less than expected, but given that it cost $30 million to make I doubt the studio is sweating it. Keep making that money "Longlegs"

Next week is "It Ends With Us", "Borderlands" and "Cuckoo" as far as wide releases are concerned.
