They really want to ensure no one goes to a movie theater ever again, huh?
I hear ya....it's really pretty ridiculous as really in most theaters with stadium seating there really isn't sightline issues for the most part. This isn't like big arenas or some shit! Not quite getting this at all. I don't see people paying more for what is considered a "better seat" plus the A-List members are and will continue to take those seats well ahead of time anyway.

I think this is actually an attempt to try to lure more folks for the A-List monthly membership in that aspect. I would imagine their subscription numbers plummeted during and after covid, and they never made a rebound. I still kept it going once theaters re-opened, but I know many who did not permamently.

FWIW, I still think that's a really sweet deal at $25 a month if you go to them like I do. I can easily see three a week at least a few times a month, and with no upcharge for 3d, Imax, Dolby etc it pays for itself after a few trips a month.

I still use my AMC Stub membership mainly for that reason. Going to see M3GAN this Sunday and with the ticket cost being $9.99 + $1.99 fee or whatever for a 12 PM showing, just seeing 2 movies in a month almost pays for the subscription itself + the concessions cost.

That's the thing: a movie with that kind of money behind it should look way better than that. That's one of the reasons people love going to "Avatar" and the new "Top Gun": every cent is on the screen, and the people behind it know it should look good and it does. Again, tell me how something like this is a good special effect

What is this from and what point of the movie?

Only directors to direct more than one Star Wars film were George Lucas (who did A New Hope and all of the prequels) and JJ Abrams (who did VII and IX) and I don’t think any of those were ever in the theaters at the same time.

The funny thing about the new Magic Mike movie is that the trailers imply a relationship between an older woman and a significantly younger man, and it doesn't feel to me like it has a predatory vibe. If anything, it feels like Salma's character is settling for Magic Mike.

Idk. Once you hit the age of 40, regardless of gender, dating a much older person doesn’t really matter as much. I could even make an argument for 30. Your brain is grown, if you want to date an old fuck then knock yourself out.

Half tempted to go see the Titanic 3d re-issue. Apparently its remastered in a really clean 4K cut and the 3d in certain formats (Dolby particularly) even got remastered in a kinda high frame rate too similar to Avatar 2. I read this was the most expensive reproduction of an older film in history or something.

But that runtime of Titanic is always what got me. It's ironically the same exact runtime as Avatar 2, by the way (3 hours and 16 min!)

I ended up going to Titanic 3D over the weekend (and what a huge drop it took in the BO numbers) and was fairly impressed with the 4k redux and the 3D was an excellent conversion for sure, especially the last hour of all of the action with the ship breaking apart.

Also saw Marlowe as well.....another great Neil Jordan film for sure with a strong immersive 50s detective mystery story that plays on many tones of that era, but Neeson felt so freaking out of place in this. That's really the only issue I had with it. He just didn't fit in the role at all while just about everyone else did.

I'll post more on it in the horror thread but also saw Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey in a packed theater so it's no shock it got a pretty impressive per screen average. Plus with it being Fathom, more gross overall per ticket.

It's got an absurdly low RT score (6% fresh) so they're probably glad they're going the Fathom Events route cause I can't imagine it gets a lot of repeat business.

Sad fact is that terribly produced films like this crap will probably go the same route in the future. We have already seen this with Jeepers Creepers Reborn which also was Fathom.

I can't believe anyone who would find that film "fresh" unless they were entertained by the entire absurdity of it all. I can't say I liked the movie at all, but I was fascinated (much like JCR) in just how fuckin god awful this was.

I'm not surprised Cocaine Bear is a nice little sleeper hit. It's like the Snakes on a Plane that actually ended up being pretty good.
I was gonna say. "Snakes" was a movie with a crazy premise but was too lazy to commit to it. This one has it's problems (for example, by the third act the central gimmick starts to run out of steam), but the people behind it at least seem to be trying. Also, the bear
snorting coke off a severed leg made me laugh hard.

It's great the cinematic career of Ray Liotta ends with him being disemboweled by a coked up bear.

Weirdly, I've only seen Snakes on a Plane once and it was the cable TV edit six or seven years ago. I was bedridden with a stomach flu and I guess I had left the TV on Syfy (I think WWE was still airing there and must've been on the night before). I think the movie's title going the mid '00s version of viral was the worst thing that could happen to it and it just made them overthink the whole damn thing. It didn't seem like it knew if it wanted to be a silly, dumb exploitation movie or a big time action thriller. It didn't have the budget for the latter and it was too slick and mainstream to achieve the latter.

Biggest opening for a "Creed" movie thus far. Also, "Demon Slayer" in the top 5 is another reminder that Anime is a viable box office draw, and I love how "RRR" has become something of a cultural phenomenon.

Needless to say, probably the best box office result for a part 6 in a franchise as well? Although I think about Fast and Furious franchise, and maybe also the Harry Potter franchise, and I might reconsider that thought.

Whatever the case, this is impressive for the Scream franchise for sure and I'm sure they are going to roll with it in a big way. I think from this point on, its almost a guarantee we see a new Scream film this time every year now, similar to the Saw franchise.

Oh shit, yep that def would be on the list too.

So instead I'll just state that this has to be the most successful 6th horror franchise film

A New Hope was episode IV, episode VI was Return of the Jedi which opened with ~$23 million, or ~$69(nice) million adjusted for inflation.

And if you ignore Lucas' numbering and go with the actual 6th movie released in the franchise, Revenge of the Sith opened even higher.

MORE LIKE REVENGE OF THE SIXTH AMIRITE?
