It's straight unfortunate to be called the King Of Hardcore while your daughter is promoting an Onlyfans, and it will probably one of those lame Onlyfans where it's just paying for someone's instagram.

Idk what's weirder seeing the Hardys coming out to a different theme (or realizing how much The Young Bucks ripped off their look from the pre breakthrough HBs) or seeing Reno Riggins and Steve Dunn in the Attitude Era.

Stevie's an odd guy. Granted my opinion is at the most totally halved because of his issues with Daff but he's always been a weird guy.

I had no clue who Sawyer Brown were but me and my brother ordered Unforgiven '98 and damned if I didn't have "Some Girls Do" stuck in my head after their performance with Double J. How big were these guys in the world of country? Feels weird that when young America were leeching onto nu metal and hip hop that WWE would bring a country music act at the height of the Attitude Era.

Vince clearly had big hopes for Jarrett, bringing him in for several runs before the Chyna pay off shit seemed to piss Vince off once and for all.

They had wanted JJ to feud w/Austin, but Steve refused due to Jarrett cutting a promo about Austin 316 being blasphemy.

If JJ doesn't jump back to WCW in late 99, maybe he gets in the main event rotation once Austin is knocked out w/ the neck injury?

Sawyer Brown was one of the bigger country acts in the early 90s. Didn't Paul Bearer end up getting a drum upside the head or was that someone else?

I thought the story was that Austin held a grudge over the way Jeff (and Jerry) treated him Memphis?

He was a big enough deal that my experience from Unforgiven 98 is still in my head. HS GF & I watched every PPV from 98-2000 at her uncle's house next door. When the Brown/Jarrett singing segment went down, her Aunt immediately grabbed the phone to call someone, "you ain't gon ba leave whos on this damn rasslin shit!" *pause* "SOY YA BROWN! sum bull shit!" and she hung up without telling her friend "goodbye."

So....big enough to piss off a country fan that barely tolerated her husband inviting his entire family and their partners over for every PPV.

Corny told a different story(or expanded beyond his normal story at least) behind Kane's creation on his last pod.
He says he pitched to Vince a series of vignettes of Jacobs sitting in filth in a basement with makeshift rags on to form clothes, being fed raw meat w/ maggots from an off screen voice of Paul Bearer screaming "If you don't like it, blame your brother!"
Jim goes on to say Vince went with Kane's outfit because he "thinks he's better than Undertaker, including the wardrobe". So Vince went with the "superhero"(Corny's word) outfit.

Corny's admitted his pitch sounds awful in a kayfabe sense, but he was writing for the WWF, which was a living cartoon anyway.
Brian Last gently told him the idea was undesirable.

I figured Droese had a good enough relationship following his WWE run considering he was in the Gimmick Battle Royal in '01. They even ran a "Where Are They Now?" piece on him on WWE.com but they've since scrubbed it since his drug arrest several years ago.

People talk about how mostly godawful his WCW and TNA stuff but it's not mentioned enough how burnout was obvious for last year or so of his WWF run. Late '98 and '99 WWF is really only marginally better than that crap. It really only worked because WWF was riding a hot hand and shock value entertainment was super hot in popular culture from '98 to '01ish.

Shock value got really old with majority of wrestling fans though. I bet if he stayed with WWF, they would've crashed earlier. It's laughable to think HE would've gotten the InvVasion right.

As much flack as Russo gets I always enjoy just hearing his takes because it's a nice contrast to the Jim Cornette-type takes and perspectives. I don't always agree with his takes (as expected) but I do think he does make legitimate points when it comes to the characters of wrestling and the importance of angles. Were some of the angles dumb? Absolutely and most don't hold up today but a lot of them remained memorable for good or bad.

To be fair to Russo, wrestlers like D'Lo Brown I remember for his chest protector gimmick & character as much/if not more than his matches with X-Pac. Val Venis too, solid wrestler, but he was the porn star gimmick hitting on women like Ryan Shamrock and Mrs. Yamaguchi.

Russo was excellent in making sure the whole roster had something to do and he was good at making new stars because of it. I don't think that point is brought up enough.

1999 is dire, though. Even then it pissed me off because how the fuck do you make the Rumble and Wrestlemania just...what they were? But honestly burning Austin/Show on Raw almost immediately and having Vince come back literally the night after Fully Loaded (to say nothing of WWF Champion Vince) just rubbed me the wrong way even in my markiest of mark days.

Russo's burnout seemed super obvious in the summer/fall of '99. That stretch of shows from King of the Ring '99 to Unforgiven '99 really feels like Russo imitating himself and churning out transparently B material.

In retrospect, combination of his burnout and WCW's desperation to start producing hits again was a recipe for disaster.

Austin made the Big Show match be booked that way as he was insecure that Big Show was going to get the big push as the new monster in town.

Austin should have had the foresight to know that Big Show wasn't a threat to his spot and that they could have drawn big on PPV together. Regardless of Show's physical condition or effort at the time, his first meetings with Austin, Rock and Undertaker should have been a big deal and they simply were not. But really I suspect there was a lot of resentment towards Show because he was a WCW guy coming in with a near-million dollar downside guarantee and the locker room wanted to bring him down to size.
