So, reading some of the commenters for one upload of Cerebral Bore's "Maniacal Miscreation" video actually made me think a little bit. Not just at the validity of opinions between opposing elitist sides, or even of the retarded nature of virtually all YouTube denizens, but...
Just what the fuck constitutes brutal death and why are slam fans so annoyed when that style (unarguably a subset of brutal death itself) is barely any different beyond a reliance on beatdowns/slams?
For example, there's no doubt that Skinless is BDM. Or Lividity, Suffocation, etc. but Putrid Pile and Devourment are referred to as slam...but I'd definitely say Putrid Pile is more BDM than straightforward slam. There's also the whole "slam vocals are gurgled" thing, which is also a technique I've heard in plenty of BDM and even straightforward death bands.
GAH I GATE MICRO SUB GENRE BICKERING WHEN THERE'S ONLY SUBTLE AND MINUTE DIFFERENCES.
In other news, I hate the RI/MA scene. There started to be a resurgence of non-core stuff a few years ago, but now everybody's going back down that road again. Yay.
