I heard about that tour as well. Closest stop to me is Charlotte, so I'm gonna try like hell to attend.

I'm totally behind with my metal these days. The new Mastodon leaked and it rocks so far. The Vocals sound better than ever.

New (17th!) album from Overkill this week and it's pretty damn good.
Interesting tidbit: anybody else think that Overkill and Testament are better now than they were in the '80s?

I don't know much about Overkill, but I'll vouch for Testament.

Stratovarius announced today that their set at Progpower USA next month will be their album "Visions" in it's entirety. I'm SO pissed that I'm not going this year!

GwarBQ was awesome. Body Count sucked outside of "Cop Killer," "Talk Shit Get Shot," and Ice-T's stage banter. Hatebreed was Hatebreed, but I'll never say that they can't work a crowd. Occultist covered my favorite Plasmatics tune, "The Damned," so props on that. The Meatmen were incredible as was expected (Tesco Vee may have the best sense of humor and biggest balls in punk/metal now that Brockie's gone). Goatwhore couldn't make it so some shitty other band filled in and put people to sleep. Iron Reagan was full of Tony Foresta making jokes about Municipal Waste ("this next song is about my other band, it's called 'Municipal Failure'"). Gwar was alright, Mike Bishop (Beefcake in the '90s) did a decent job on vocals, and THE SEXECUTIONER returned.

People watching was fantastic. There was this guy tripping balls who kept jumping into the lake and swimming around, much to the dismay of his surprisingly pretty girlfriend (I say surprisingly because they're from Jersey), and he was asking my friend's wife to jump in with him and received a lollipop directly between the eyes for it. Considering we were high as fuck, this feat was remarkable and full of howling laughter. Even better was when his girlfriend AGAIN tried to get him out of the lake and then he blew bubbles in the water (her words: "he thinks he's a fucking speedboat"), put mud on his head, threw it at somebody walking by, and then swam to the other side of the lake.

The only downside is the trek home and running into my ex (the one causing that post). All in all? Great fucking time.

Since I haven't seen a show this year, Lacuna Coil is heading into Calgary. I missed them out a couple of years ago when they opened for Motorhead and Megadeth, so I'll be glad to finally see them.

I haven't heard many good thing about their live show. I have about 4 to 6 friends that have seen them live and they've all said the same thing. They also mention that Cristina Scabbia is known to lip sync. I don't know if it has changed since I've heard about that, though. I like their stuff I've heard, but haven't listened to them much since around 06 or so.

The only part I would be willing to guess she lip syncs is the beginning of "Our Truth". You can see newer clips of her doing the intro and she lets her hair hang over her face so you can't really see anything. There used to be a couple of older clips on Youtube of her doing that opening part about as well as I could.

My friend was telling me about this embarrassingly awful Paul Di'Anno live DVD. I wasn't sure if it could live up to her description but good lord....I've seen several recent Motley Crue concerts on Palladia, I've seen KISS live in the past year or so but this puts them to shame in terms of old metal/hard rock vocalist just hacking their way through one of their old hits and dying an embarrassing death onstage.

Nightwish is going on tour starting in April. Their first stop in here in NY. I'm going to try to get tickets. Delain is opening. I need to go.

I saw that yesterday and was immediately disappointed that they aren't stopping in Atlanta. I might have to make the drive to Charlotte instead. I'm not sure what is happening in Atlanta next Spring, but both Nightwish and Kamelot are bypassing their usual stop there at The Masquerade.

Blind Guardian announced on Facebook that they have a new album coming in January, and that's just fine.

Abnormality is currently in the hunt for a new lead guitarist. Ben Durgin has decided to leave because he's become bored with death metal.

If only my chops were anywhere near that level...

How did I miss this news? I'm down.

I'm really hoping to see them on tour in the US again some day. I saw them in Charlotte, NC back in December of 2006, and you could tell they were dialing it in. MAYBE 150 people showed up at the concert hall, and Guardian's give a damn was at about 1%. I'd like to see them again because most of their live footage on Youtube really kicks ass. The opening band on the other hand, Leaves Eyes, tore the house down and was a lot of fun. Leaves Eyes was shooting a DVD at the time, so I'm sure that had something to do with their performance that night.
