Career mode has some serious cheese. I'm playing on beginner to level up my guy quickly. 11-0, Middleweight Champion. Every fight's been cake. Then I lost to Anderson Silva and his muay thai clinch. 14 TIMES IN A ROW. I can beat Silva on Experienced with my 42 overall CAF, but he keeps flash KOing me or kneeing me to death in the inescapable clinch of doom during career.

Reminds me of the TNA Impact game when the fight against Kevin Nash was a huge leap in difficulty/cheapness, and I eventually gave up and never played that game again.

Played a few matches today.

A: I wish the game would match you up with people within your range of level. No reason for me (at the time) being level 4 and having to go up against someone who was a level 25.

B: Poor Brock. No sub skills whatsoever and its costing me victories. Two fights in a row I've been forced to tap to a kimura.

C: Lag seems to come and go. Some times its horrible, others there's just a tiny bit and it never really interferes in the fight.

did anyone get the worlds greatest grappler achievement yet? how is it possible to win by submission when using no strikes?

I know, right? The striking one was so easy. I can get submissions, but how do I weaken them with no strikes?

I just got it with Frank Mir vs Brock Lesnar. I pulled guard, went to rubber guard, threw up a triangle and pounded the fuck out of the buttons.

So I just fought a guy that pissed me right off. All he did was do running strikes and had me chase him around the Octagon for three rounds before I had enough and went in to beat him and got KOed by a headkick.

I hate that. Fucking come at me and let's fight. Ruined my perfect 3-0 record too.

And it seems like Yushin Okami has become my white whale in Career; I've fought him twice and have lost twice in the 3rd after having him on the ropes. I think I'm finally getting the hang of doing ground transitions, though.

I ran into Sean Sherk and his abnormally large head and he just keeps owning me over and over.

I'm 1-0 in Ranked fights...Ran into a guy whose entire strategy was to run at me and strike. Which sucked and I made it a hard match up (I was Gonzaga he was Kongo) to make it more fun. I eventually caught him, and used my uber ground skills to crush him for a KO.

Now I will retire, and fade into history much like Rickson Gracie. I retired because I am too legendary for everyone else.

I was doing roughly 50/50 with the CPU on 1 level up from Beginner. I have yet to consistently figure out how to escape from being on the bottom after being taken down. Then I played my roommate and went roughly 1-15. My lone win being a flash Chris Leben KO of Rich Franklin.

He had played the night before and perfected blocking and the superman punch, things I didn't grasp much til half of the fights were over.

I know I said above I wasn't going to, but I played more ranked.

Sitting on 10-0 now. Would be 11-0, but a douche quit on me.

Had some good fights with UT this morning/late night - He wiped the floor with me three times with his ground and pound wrestler antics. Then I got a spawny Frank Mir submission win to end the night off haha.

It's nifty how the game keeps track of all records, so even though I haven't played ranked, the game keeps count of the 6 fights (3-3 with various combos of real and CAF's) I had with my friend Gary. But I need to play some ranked to get achievements soon, and I need to play youse guys, too.

I want to take a crack at breaking your undefeated streak. I'm currently 17-12.

Best strategy would have been to run at him and takedown. Actually pause a second before you go for the takedown if he's a kickboxer, because he'd probably try to throw a counter knee. Then once he's on the mat problem solved. He can't run if he's down.

If you suck at transitions, then just hold left no the stick and hold him there, make the ref keep standing you up lol. Give him a taste of his own medicine.

I ended up 12-2 or so before I quit for the night. I set the game to making me face "advanced" fighters. I got fluke KO'd by one, and in the second loss I made a mental mistake on the ground and got subbed.

When I'm playing ranked, I have a whole nother strategy then I do for regular games. My goal in ranked is to win by any means, generally using my ground abilities. But when I play with friends (and I plan on doing this in our tournaments) I'm more willing to do stuff. Like striking when I know I shouldn't, or trying subs when I shouldn't, etc, etc. While I want to win, it's more about fun then W's there.

But you can't erase those ranked losses.

I couldn't stop knocking out Stephan Bonner when I was trying to recreate the TUF finale fight with Forrest. I had to keep the leg kicks/body shots going, then I dropped him with those.

I'm so terrible on the ground against the CPU. When I fight against my buddies I'm fine, but the CPU in career just obliterates me every time.

I find the same thing works for the game as in real life. Stay calm. Think about what you're doing and where you're trying to go. If I just start moving the control stick trying to get the guy off me I'm fucked but if I go slow and think things through I can usually get back to my feet.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to play this yet, but I've run through like half the lightweight roster with BJ Penn, winning every single fight by knockout, including G&P knockouts of Diego and Griffin. I'm feeling very comfortable with the standup and ground transitions. Diego had me on the mat for the better part of a round but I fared well minimizing the damage, and the next round I had him down for a couple minutes and didn't let him escape, until I finished him with the ground & pound.

My biggest agitations so far are that I've yet to be able to lock on a submission or throw a freaking head kick. The submission thing I get as everyone seems to be having trouble with it, and to be realistic it shouldn't be that easy, but I must be retarded on the high kick thing. I'm also trying to figure out how to do a flying knee.

BJ can do neither (high kicks or flying knees), nor can anyone else with the Boxing style.

This is good advice. Before I'd just mash around the stick and it would not work, but planning/practicing each transition works a lot better.

That being said, I still have a tough time when they get into full mount. Though I suppose if they ever get full mount I've already screwed up monumentally. Stupid Tito Ortiz.

Don't feel too bad. You almost guillotined me on that slam attempt, so that's something.

Fuck Jon Fitch... I'm taking out all the wrestlers in Welterweight for career mode as a BJJ/Kickboxing dude... and that asshole just won't go down. He either gets enough takedowns to squeak out a decision win, or he'll G&P me in the closing seconds of a round. I KO Koscheck, tap Hughes with an armbar... but I can't finish Fitch.
