IIRC Gail shot that movie about 6 or 7 years ago and it's just now being released! Ha!

INDIE HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING PIC BEYOND THE MAT PUMPED UP BY SOME LORDS OF THE RING

These days, the web buzz around Beyond The Mat, the high school wrestling drama starring John Wynn and Days of Our Lives' hottie Mark Hapka, is steadily building into the roar of the crowd as the film is granted some extra heft from pro wrestlers Kurt Angle and Ken Shamrock. The Olympic Gold medalist and UFC champion, respectively, will be appearing in pivotal scenes in the indie pic based on the Tribeca fest-winning screenplay. The film, the feature directorial debut of Van Pham, is executive produced by L.A.-based Catch 22 Entertainment.

Angle, a six-time WWF champ and TNA Triple Crown winner, portrays a menacing coach to Dominic, the sinister opponent of our unlikely hero, Aaron (Wynn), whose pursuit of the ring is nearly derailed by his Hamlet-like quest to find himself while avenging a long-standing grudge.

Shamrock, a UFC Hall of Famer and four-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, who has headlined more than 15 main events in the UFC and Pride Championships, may be slightly overqualified for his role as an exuberant color commentator in Beyond The Mat's key fight scenes, but his presence, and Angle's, underscore the filmmakers' commitment to tapping real-world wrestling sensibilities.

What's more, the film has already garnered endorsements from USA Wrestling as well as the National High School Coaches Association.

To further burnish the film's sports-world cred, Catch 22's VP of Production Lorna Paul has secured the talents of editor Scott Conrad, best known for his masterful, Oscar-winning cut of Rocky, everyone's favorite rags-to-riches-in-the-ring tale.

What.

Also, nobody realized that there was already a fairly well-known movie about wrestling with an identical title?

So "Superfight" wins in the early days count as individual "championship" wins?
Even if that were the case, it's still a blatant lie. Shamrock only won two Superfights: tapping Dan Severn with a guillotine choke, and Kimo with a kneebar. In his others, he lost to Severn via a decision, and went to draws with Royce Gracie and Oleg Taktarov. The only possible way you could get four wins out of that is to do the old "well, if they'd had judges for the Royce and Oleg fights, they would've ruled it for Shamrock" coulda-shoulda-woulda scenario. When you've got a guy who's already as big a name as Shamrock is, what's the point in shilling him with a double-whammy of obvious falsehoods? In theory, you're trying to appeal to MMA fans by casting Ken in the part, and those are the exact people who are likely to spot such a howler as this.

Yeah, early reports of the movie are saying that "Legendary" really isn't that bad. It won't win any awards or anything but it is watchable.

Deadline.com reported today more details on Edge (Adam Copeland) being featured in WWE Studios's next film being produced out of New Orleans.

In "Bending the Rules," Copeland will be starring opposite actor Jamie Kennedy as a dirty cop faced with corruption charges. Kennedy will be playing the District Attorney trying to "bring down" Copeland's character. Production has already begun in New Orleans.

The movie also stars Jessica Walter (the Bluth matriarch on "Arrested Development"), Jennifer Esposito ("Rescue Me" & "Crash"), Alicia Witt, and Phillip Baker Hall. Deadline reported some details on the movie:

"One the day the DA (played by Kennedy) loses his case, his prized possession, a 1956 Studebaker Goldenhawk gets swiped and complications ensue as the lawyer tries to get his car back."

Wow....this WWE film actually sounds like *gasp* a real movie.

And what are the odds of Edge trying it on with Alicia Witt?

The presence of Alicia Witt assures that it will suck. I love that girl, but she has the all-time worst taste in scripts.

She's appeared on plenty of decent television shows, but how many good movies has she been in recently?

Besides, this is all over what's supposed to be a serious drama with Jamie Kennedy as an attorney and Edge as a police officer. This is fucked from the start, period.

What are you talking about? This is clearly a Very Serious Drama involving a stolen 1956 Studebaker and co-starring Lucille Bluth.

This will be the best WWE movie because any movie with Philip Baker Hall doing his Lt. Bookman/"let's cut the bull spit" authority figure shtick will have at least one good scene.

Judging by the cast and the premise, it's a comedy, Jingus.
Kennedy is the only one known as a comedian. Even Walter has starred in plenty of dramas. (Although just now looking at her IMDB profile, this is the first time I realized that she was the university president in PCU.) And "a district attorney tries to take down a dirty cop" hardly sounds like fun and games.

That being said, I hope it is a comedy. WWE's movies so far have mostly been an overly grim and mirthless lot. I have wondered why they focus so much on explosions, and so little on doing something more lighthearted.

Admittedly, I barely even paid attention to that part, I just saw "District Attorney Jamie Kennedy tries to prosecute Corrupt Cop Adam Copeland" and my eyes crossed. That bit about the car does sound more goofy, but I've seen non-comedy movies with that kind of plot too.

Maybe some of you goofballs tearing Jingus up in this thread could have taken the 30 seconds to go to deadline.com where it clearly states that the movie is a drama. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

- John Cena will be taking time off WWE live events in October and part of November to film another movie. Cena will be playing one of three brothers who try to collect on an FBI reward for the return of a kidnapped billionaire who is being held hostage in Mexico.

THEY HAVE A HOSTAGE! IT'S...A BILLIONAIRE I DON'T KNOW!

I hope the billionaire character is based on Vince McMahon.

Now the thought of kidnapping money movies makes me want to see a remake of "Ransom" starring Vince.

Ransom starring Vince McMahon would go like this: someone is kidnapped, Vince walks into the room with the kidnappers, we hear a struggle from outside, and Vince walks out and says "It's okay. The kidnappers are DEAD."
