@BruiserBrody disgusted/resigned noises as he downloads a six and half hour Frankenstein’d together podcast that he has already heard

Today's My World With Jeff Jarrett is on the NWA Invades WWF angle from 1998. And the episode description promises some Dennis Corralluzzo discussion, @Laz !

Grillin JR covers the RAW Bowl this week.
- Reading my review from 7 years ago, I didn't dig it but having a fatal four way tag match was completely new to the WWF. (CONTEXT IS KING)
- IIRC we wouldn't get one on PPV until SSlam and single 3 ways didn't become the norm at house shows for another year or so.
- Hard to enjoy a novelty when the concept has long been beaten to death.
- Mid South did run a four way tag in 1985 (at a Superdome IIRC) and I'm pretty sure Memphis did something similar too. Maybe both a Dundee brain child????
- WCW's first multiman concept was called a "Triangle Match" w/ Sting/Angel/Vader but IIRC it was just two separate matches with the winner advancing. Memphis ran the same concept in early 88 when Lawler beat Manny Fernandez and....uhhhhh....somebody in one night in a 3 title unification series (IIRC)
- I haven't listened to JR's take yet as I still plowing through Corny's last podcast.

Arn’s podcast just isn’t very good right now. Arn will talk for a bit, they’ll cut to a promo, talk some more, another promo… which is usually almost the exact same promo.

They’re just playing promos from various markets, and it’s just a lot of repeating. That’s a lot for the same episode.

Double J is covering USWA Dallas again this week.

Conrad Thompson: So chat me up, Jeff. USWA Dallas, was it different from the USWA in Memphis or was it the same?
(@BruiserBrody dies)
Part one was a good episode. I wish Conrad tried harder with the Superclash 3 episode. They actually could have done a worthwhile multi-part pod on how Memphis/Dallas/Continental/AWA got to that point.

Even Conrad and Double J kind of admit that they should get some of the old heads like Papa Jarrett and David Manning (“Or Greg Gagne!”- Brod) to help them to tell the tale. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got an expanded edition behind the AFS paywall soon.

me listening to the NWA in WWF episode last night.

Conrad: so Chainz, better known as the Fake Undertaker or Primetime Brian Lee in ECW or Smokey Mountain. We don’t get a chance to talk a lot about him. Do you remember ever working with him?
(Me,having just watched a bunch of ‘03 TNA, dies)

Spike and Taz had a shocking run by 2002 standards, too.

I'm trying to think of things I'd be interested in hearing about the 2002 Rumble and all I have is Hennig's return. Who takes credit/blame? Who knew it would get over/fail? It's just DVD fluff piece stuff but that show is pretty lame. Oh maybe they could go into why Rock ended up getting the main event instead of RVD, like originally thought.

The WON reports in May 88 that Studd made a country demo tape and was trying to land a record deal!
Current episodes of John Arezzi's podcast (which are up to January 1992) are talking about Big John Studd signing with Don King to train to become a boxer. This week's episode, which I haven't listened to yet, has Studd coming on the show to talk about his alliance with Don King. I'm sure 44 year old, gimpy gorilla Big John Studd boxing would've been electric.

Big John Studd was also really good friends with Mickey Rourke from their time filming Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. I remember Mickey Rourke talking about that in interviews promoting The Wrestler. I'd read a Big John Studd biography probably.

Edit---Actually looking at the cast list for Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man, I feel like I've heard Giancarlo Esposito talk about hanging out with Big John Studd too. How good/bad is that movie?

The Way of the Blade episode with Julius Smokes is a hard listen. Not because of a touchy subject, but because Smokes is clearly high and just rambles on about everything. Dude either never breaks kayfabe or isn't doing a character at all when he's got a mic.

Scott 2 Hotty has been hitting the podcast circuit over the last few weeks. His insight into the PC and how things were run just before his departure is eye opening.

So if business stayed soft and the WWF needed some fresh tricks, how would have a 97 or beyond Michael Hayes run on the main roster have gone?
Obv. He did work a few WWF matches and a couple of Memphis matches in the late 90s.
--
I can't recall if Gordy's kid and Hayes ever did anything during Jesse and Festus' run.

Given how his WCW run went post 1989? Not great!

It's crazy to think he was only in his early 30s in Jim Herd doldrums era WCW (and only 40 when he managed to The Hardys) but I think we've talked a lot about the subject "Cripes! Michael PS Hayes looked 10 years older than he was in the '90s!"

Hayes and Gordy as the confederate group against the Hart Foundation would've been funny for a month.

Bad. Harping on WCW for the last year or two being full of dinosaurs and then pushing a guy whose prime was in 1984 wouldn't be a good look at any level.
