Oh man I forgot the REAL best part of Foley's, and I can't believe it hasn't gotten a real response: he said AEW should hire Corny to teach those youngsters.

This drove off viewers by the boatful, right? I don’t know a soul that thought this was a good idea.

I would argue, (how I felt at the time) that WCW from late May 1999 until the end of July 1999 was probably the worst two month stretch WCW ever had, and that covers a ton of territory.

I haven't listened to the pod yet, and I will go in with a mostly open mind. There were multiple problems in my opinion with the Master P/No Limit Soldiers storyline. First was that Master P and the NLS were an audience that Bischoff wanted to establish in a long term way, but there was no way that the current WCW audience had any idea or were that interested in Master P. The fact that they were able to turn a '99 Hennig and Windham Bros faction face shows how out of touch the booking was.

Honestly they should have had them heels first and had them go against the Konann & Rey group. I think ultimately it just wasn't going to work, but I think the booking plus the scope of who was actually watching WCW at the time just wasn't going to make their run show any semblance of success.

Foley's IWA show was something.

--Conrad sucks and needs to figure out that asking Foley questions he's answered in his books, then reading the passages right after Foley answers the questions the exact same way so Foley can agree with himself, is fucking stupid. At least the contemporary Meltz reviews add a little context.

--At one point Foley talks about how they did the show on Beyond the Mat "a few years ago." I'm sure he just misspoke but I worry about his brain too much to not dwell a little.

--He also answered a question about how he started deathmatches by talking about how he had his bottom teeth pulled after HITC.

--Speaking of he's already talking about the 25 anniversary of that fucking match and the podcast that I no doubt have heard several hundred times by now.

--They watch the Cactus/Funk King Of The Deathmatch final, which I realized I had never seen, and it kinda sucks. Foley's distracted by other stuff so I don't think you'd know what was happening if you just listened to it vs watched it on Youtube.

--Totally dodged a question about Omega/Mox and whether he thought it was good up until the ending. "Is that the one where Eddie came out? Yeah...yeah people either like that style or they don't."

--He puts Shoji Nakamaki over a lot and I lowkey loved it.

--Blames is fucked up, offputting random blinking on all the hardway shots he's had. I'm not sure that's entirely true but it probably sounds better than brain damage.

--"I think part of why I love women's wrestling so much is because they wear their heart on their sleeve. They don't just have a look of disbelief when there's a near fall, they almost burst into tears. I like that."

I love the guy but at times I question why I listen to this.

Bruce wasn’t there to do his Montreal Screwjob episode last week, so they did a Montreal Screwjob mashup rerun show. Bruce wasn’t there this week to do it again this week… so they did an Eric Bischoff Montreal Screwjob episode on STW.

This horse has had the life beaten out of it.

A week or 2 after spending over an hour going over AEW's entire roster all the way down to refs and commentators to judge whether they have value or not (In reality a chance to shit on almost everyone), Corny spent a good chunk of this weekend's pod going over the roster to determine who the WWE could use.
I need an intervention to get me off this Corny addiction. All the modern stuff is just white noise.

--
I recently re-listened to the 1st episode of the 605 pod with Last and Bix and almost the first thing out of Last's mouth was "I hate the modern product and never want to talk about it"

GFA Live is covering "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" for Thanksgiving week.
Keithie suggests it would have been fun if John Candy was kept off the ads and his reveal as Martin's reluctant partner was a surprise.
Peter Winson: "Yes, John Candy coming out of the egg at Survivor Series 90 would have been better"

I howled.

Listening to my first "Wrestling History Hand Grenade" podcast because he tossed the chum of a WM 3 review out there.

He was the guy who found the Calgary syndication show promo that showed Gordie Howe was going to be in the Can Am's corner. He also mentions during the pod a fun story about Alice Cooper telling an interviewer about watching Bundy argue with the midgets backstage post match.
HOWEVER.... He just said Pat Patterson wanted Jacques Rougeau to team with Rick Martel, and Jacques pitched his brother instead. Now this timeline doesn't add up. The Rougeaus are implemented into the WWF in the late summer of 85 while Montreal is absorbed into a WWF area, with the Rougeaus vs Garvins blow off taking place on a WWF show technically.
Martel doesn't come in to WWF for a full year+ after, so either Patterson tried to hire the AWA World champion to jump into a mid card tag team or somebody lied somewhere. Maybe Jacques said some shit in a video? I guess it could also be true.

I have corrected this podcaster before as he misidentified Verne Gagne with another balding man in an AWA TV interview segment AND I WASN'T HAVING ANY OF THAT!!
He changed the title of the interview on youtube after.

Nash says on this week's pod that Ray Combs came in to WWF to do the Face to Face segments as they tried different people to replace Mean Gene.... He has to be misremembering Joe Fowler right? Right?
--
Nash says if a guy went too far in burying his opponent in this segment then the "victim" would cuss to make the tape unusable.

Combs came in for Survivor Series so it isn't like it's out of the question. He'd have been alright too, I think. Really he'd probably have a good schedule, just a couple big tapings a month (the Feud and WWF) with a ppv five times a year. I mean the WWF would've gotten destroyed when he offed himself but at least it wouldn't have been their fault.

Yeah. Ray Combs' career was super on the skids when he offed himself so I can see him being desperate enough to do an extended tryout with WWF. His involvement was much greater in Survivor Series '93 than it was WrestleMania VIII so I can sort of see that as testing the waters. Also he was IRL friends with Bobby Heenan and tried to get Heenan work outside of wrestling when Combs' career was going through better days.

Combs could've fit. He'd be the ultimate New Generation cool dad, and given the discussion some time ago about Johnny Polo being the new Heenan I think those two would click really well into that sort of duo.

Listening to the Grillin' JR on Clash of the Champions XXI. Not only are they under the assumption that Robby Walker is "Hardwork" Bobby but I'm 99.999% sure they mixed up "Hardwork" Bobby Walker with Hardbody Harrison cause Conrad grimly suggested the listener google why he's going to be in prison for a long time. Stuff like this is why Sonny Onoo and Bobby Walker (…and Hardbody Harrison) filed racial discrimination suit!

Of course, there's a chance that Bobby Walker did something horrible and went to jail too but my Google machine isn't showing anything RE: What "Hardwork" Bobby Walker is up to in 2022.

At least their names can be initially confusing. That happens to me regardless at times. Like my life would've turned out differently if I didn't spend my youth avoiding Tom Waits because I thought he was John Waite.

Cued up to a story about how Dennis Condrey taught Corny the sugar hold as a rib on Tommy Rogers that had me laughing so hard that small tears began appearing in the corners of my eyes.

Haven't listened to Bischoff in ages but checked out the Fall Brawl 97 show and he immediately blames the disappointing buyrate on the Horsemen. Lol. Had nothing to do with the nwo b squad like Bagwell and Konnan in the main event I guess

Regal's year away from WWE really is like when a couple takes some time off and realizes that they actually do really love each other. Regal has a wealth of experience outside of Titan obviously but I think he somewhat rightfully considers it to be home and Idk if he'll ever leave again now that his lifelong pal Trips is in charge.

Speaking on a purely salacious level, they could've done better.

Speaking on a wrestling fan level, they could've done better.

Speaking as a general human being, it gave us Al Wilson and thus was a necessary step forward.
