I was a casual fan during this era so maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention but I don’t remember a vocal pro Ted Jr over Cody contingent at all.
I didn’t think Ted Jr was going to be the Marty but I always thought pretty highly of Cody, even as a greenhorn.

I remember it as people thought Cody was going to be something immediately after Dusty's HOF induction because he came off great and Dibiase was fine but didn't have his dad's charisma but would succeed under the Orton Force Of Will Rule.

I didn't hate GOB '04, either. I don't think I've watched 05 because it sounds horrendous. That said for D2D and GOB 04 the context is huge vs them as standalone shows. In a vacuum they're just subpar and kinda underrated respectively (the GOB solely because Eddie/JBL is good).

Eddie/JBL is by far the best match on any of those three shows but man, is the rest of the GAB ‘04 card bad.

Aye. D2D is a greater travesty, as it signified that the soul and spirit of ECW, an innovative and beloved cult favorite that believed in pushing boundaries and lifting lesser known talent, was dead and buried in favor of "ECW," a brand where WWE sent talents they didn't know what the fuck else to do with and bore no resemblance to what fans wanted of the show.
For fuck's sake, it's the show where a "TNA" chant started and nearly drowned out the mic'd audio from how pissed the audience was.
