I am surprised WCW didn’t bring it up during the weird Face Hogan Vs Heel Sting feud in the Fall of ‘99.

Work Thoughts.... If JYD doesn't get Jobberitis at Wrestle War 89 and faces Muta, does Muta's push get hurt at all trying to work with the immobile Dog instead of Doug Gilbert, who willingly took all his flying spots? Thinking Roma and Duggan's PPV messes with Alex Wright.

--
That reminded me of the fan who is too busy mugging for the camera and missed Muta's tope to the floor, only to jump back a bit when Muta flies and crashes by his feet.

lots of traditional martial arts like tae kwon do and Karate took a long time to be respected in the world of MMA. But when guys like David Loiseau and Lyoto Machida started finishing dudes with those moves, people took notice.

We still haven't seen it but hopefully with the sharing power of twitter the double axehandle block counter that was being taught in Glens Falls Karate Dojos in the 70s will finally become a staple of the fight game.

Loiseau was my shit.

WCW could've made an easy transition from the taped fist era of Duggan into just going full patriot Tank Abbott.

They never did? That's such a no-brainer.

I don't know if I love or hate than Tank was honestly a good short term answer to a bunch of problems. They really could have given him the world title and should've. Wouldn't have done much but he had cred no one else did, and any way you wanted to beat him would be within the realm of possibility because he'd already lost fights all the ways you can and was still beloved.

Yeah, I honestly think Russo's idea of having him win at Souled Out '00 wasn't THAT BAD in theory. And Goldberg Vs Tank Abbott should have been their big program for '00 instead of a somewhat thrown away Nitro match.

...y'all were actually watching, right? Tank wasn't over. Like, at all. The most over he ever got in pro wrestling was as 3Count's abusive manager.

I think the only people over at that point, though, were DDP and Goldberg and Rey, to be fair, but still.

I was still a religious WCW watcher at that point, Nitro, Thunder, and even the dying days of Saturday Night. And nobody but nobody except maybe SID and Sting were over in the first few months of '00.

Like Tank Abbott becoming WCW World Champion is definitely a NOT GOOD idea but I *get* why Vince Russo wanted to make that move, ya know? It would have been more of a shock to the system than Benoit or SID becoming World Champ

Tank had no downside. It was freefall. I think if you gave Tank matches with Sting or DDP, he could definitely have been one of those guys people got tricked into being better than he was in that void the Radicalz left. No main event scene has meant less than 2000 WCW and any new blood was so welcome anyhow. He would not be a long term anything in the slightest, but he was FAR from the worst guy to give a shock run to.

He also wasn't a good choice, by any actual stretch, and thinking otherwise is the worst kind of hindsight. I'd hardly call that time period freefall, not like it would be a couple months later when Sullivan's run was proving to be even worse than it was in 1995.

Aa for other choices, shit was far too tight for any real long-term solution, but DDP with a fresh face run at the top was an option. One of the dumbest things they did in '99 was turn him heel, even if I actually enjoyed the Jersey Triad, because he'd just come off of 2 years of being one of the hottest faces the company had who wasn't Sting.

Tank wouldn't have been good beyond a "wtf are they thinking" deal, which wouldn't have translated to any sort of goodwill. He was absolutely shit in the ring, couldn't talk, garbage look, and all he had going for him was a UFC record propped up with tomatoes. It would have just made things worse.

I think the argument is WCW missed the boat on DDP by not giving him the title sooner. They missed his peak and by the time he got it, the IWC was already in "He's Eric's Boy" mode, and WCW was falling downhill to the fans watching at home. The heel turn and "slumming" in tag teams finished off his allure.
