Re: Conan Blows

I think they're just pulling most of these clips from the 10th anniversary DVD, but these "20 Years of Conan" clips that they're showing this week are pretty depressing.

When he kisses Rebecca Romijn is really great.

Re: Conan Blows

they showed the Norm/Courtney Thorne Smith clip from 1997 last night. It's still one of the funniest things in the history of television. Conan absolutely loses it when Norm says b-o-r-e-d

Re: Conan Blows

I should have known better than to watch Kristen Wiig's interview on Kimmel but holy crap was it painful. Whoever thought that whole first date thing was even remotely funny should be banned from entertainment for life.

It's going to be the exact same show, isn't it?

I was laughing at him getting choked up on his 'last show' when he's getting a promotion and only having to move across the hall.

I now realize I got Fallon and Meyers confused..

I have no interest in Meyers' show and would have lost any interest in Fallon's had The Roots not moved with him.

Man I don't agree that Fallon is carried by the peripheral figures on his show. Higgins and the Roots are both awesome but even if you don't think he's funny there's no doubt Fallon is incredibly talented

I don't know what to think of Fred as Seth's bandleader

I like the idea of Fred being the bandleader the more I think about it but I'm still not sold on Seth Myers as the host of Late Night. I think him and Fallon are way too similar. Every other Tonight Show/Late Night tandem has been somewhat of a contrast. I'd even argue Conan and Fallon were enough different during the six months they were on at the same time. But Myers and Fallon are two, fortysomething white male SNL alums. One sings, one talks about politics! That's about it for the difference.

I could probably think of at least a half dozen people I'd like better than Myers. Not to say he'll do a bad job but I think it'll just be more of the same thing with him following Fallon.

I thought Seth was pretty terrible last night. He used his Update voice and he was as smug as ever. This is going to be tough to sit through. He also has no knack for banter

Yeah, that wasn't very good.

I thought the set was pretty cheap looking, too. Boring, at least.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the first show better than I could ever say it.

Prince is going to be the only guest on Arsenio next Wednesday. 1989 is going to be a great year, you guys! :)

Still not sure how I feel about Seth Meyers. He actually seems like he's a good interviewer by network late night talk show hosts standards. Nobody's actually good at interviewing guests except Ferguson (Letterman and Fallon are both terrible in their own ways) but it seems like that could be one of Meyers' strong suits.

I like that his band doesn't have any horns in it. Kind of makes them stand out. I think more late night bands should switch up the formula.

I'm still sticking with Craig and his band Alfredo Sauce and the Shy Fellas.

In fact, I'm sticking with Craig on everything. The general insanity and him making it clear he doesn't really give a shit just kills me.

Watching the Prince episode of Arsenio really reminded me how much of a kiss ass Arsenio was during his interviews---even by late night talk show host standards.

Prince somehow comes across as even more awkward when he's trying to be relatable.

Did learn that Prince enjoys making omelettes more than making pancakes. Good version of "She's Always In My Hair".

He also had the cast of Total Divas on the night after Prince was on.

It's weird that Arsenio barely changed anything about the show. The band is completely different, the set is slightly different and there's a bit less emphasis on The Dog Pound but everything is pretty much the same. It's bizarre. It's like your dead grandmother coming back to life twenty years later. I'm shocked it got renewed for a second year.
