I don't know if they made any graphical enhancements or not but, at least on my HDTV, I notice the character models (not counting the random NPCs) look pretty smooth. The temple / Sonic's hub area for Red Mountain looks really nice too, but I remember them looking really nice in 1999.
I forgot about the little "The story so far" text crawls when you resume playing as a different character.
I really don't remember spending a lot of time with SA2 other than I was really, really looking forward to it since SA was one of my favourite DC games. We rented it and didn't really care for it; like you mentioned, instead of 6 unique objectives / control styles (even if one of them is Big), they doubled up on 3 AND decided to make them somehow worse.
