Also you get the mlb at bat app for free...which lets you either watch pitch by pitch of every game, tune into the radio broadcast from either side, or watch the game live on your phone. I got some use out of that at work today when the Sox/Tigers game ended after 4.

I see Xbox Live Canada has some kind of Easter Egg hunt for prizes going on though I don't know the answers to the clues.

Thanks bps. I actually tried out the app today just to see how it looked and noticed that, indeed, if I had a subscription I could watch any game I wanted. I was dismayed that the screen to do so spoiled the result of the game... then I found the option to turn scores off. Even for free, watching the game recaps on TV is cool.

I tried watching the free game of the day (for yesterday, anyway) to see how an actual game looks (the recaps, while very nice, gave off that "internet video" feel instead of an organic TV broadcast feel... if that makes any sense to anyone) but it seems to be locked - not sure if it's because it just happened to be a Jays game and I'm in Canada or what.

IIRC Jays games are blacked out in the entire country. Welcome to the wonderful world of bullshit blackout rules!

So, if I was a Canadian who wasn't a Tigers fan, my team would be blacked out always... ha, poor bastards.

Yeah but their games are probably broadcast anyway aren't they? Being the only Canadian team left I'd have guessed they'd have pretty good coverage. Yankees and Mets games are blacked out for me...but the YES network and the SNY channel air all of those anyway.

It's kind of funny - last year Rogers Sportsnet switched to airing everything BUT Jays games, which are now on "SportsNet 1" (or maybe I have it in reverse). People without digital cable were pretty angry, and even then it didn't come to this market immediately.

Back to pinball, I think Arabian Nights would be a lot more fun if the table wasn't designed to kill you, but I still enjoy it.

I guess I'll have an Xbox soon. I refuse to pay full price, so I'm paying $40 to get an old model that my best friend owns repaired. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll finally shell out a few hundred bucks for a new one but shit do I not want to do that.

They've been annoyingly releasing another arcade game on Friday lately. The one this week "fez" got a 9.5 from ign. I remember when this game got its first preview and it looked really good

Fez has been in development and previewed for almost 5 years. I can't believe it came out.

My 360 is dead (I guess, time to actually research a RROD), I hate the PS3's Netflix interface, and I can't bring myself to watch youtube on a computer anymore. Talk me through this people.

Check your av cables first. It sends out a remarkably similar warning ring

It's the "General Hardware Failure" one. I had kind of hoped being a 3/4 ring meant it WASN'T a full ring, but I guess the full ring means a/v cables, although apparently unplugging it may work.

You know what really kills me? I was having an AWESOME first ball in Theatre of Magic when it happened. Things were looking good, then everything turned purple, then black (or maybe that was when I shut it off, I don't remember the details now), then when I turned it back on, red lights. That happened to me earlier in the afternoon too, during a much worse play session of ToM - I hit a bumper and all of the sudden there was a buzz, the screen went all weird like in a cartoon where a villain hijacks a TV signal, then froze.

It's very much the principle of the thing - while I'd love to have an excuse to go buy a smaller, sleeker, kinect ready, bigger hard drive (mine is almost full), and built in wireless adapter (the new ones of that right?), I just feel like the time to do that should be up to me... like, when they're cheaper.

I don't know how much they charge out of warranty, but at least the repair process is pretty slick and fast. You just fill some stuff out online then they e-mail you a shipping label to print.

Yeah the good news is I sent mine in for repair years ago and it never had another problem. It was quick and easy.

A friend of mine lost his original model out of warranty and apparently found it easier to just buy a new system... or his broke twice, I don't know. Either way he reached a point for replacement worked best.

And then booting up Pinball Arcade killed it again, apparently for good.

How difficult / easy / time consuming is it to extract the entirety of my old data onto a new system? A friend that works at EB told me they take dead systems for $20 (I also thought she misquoted the price for the 250GB model, but apparently it's on sale until the 26th), which is better than nothing, but I need to keep the HDD to get the stuff of it... though I suppose I could give it to them after the fact. I think I'm going to sell it for cheap to a friend and let him worry about fixing it.

Seems easy according to this: http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-360/accessories/set-up-transfer-cable

Nope, you're right. IIRC, it became part of the free digital package sometime after the 2010 season ended. I called Cogeco about it and they sounded defeated in explaining it to me, probably because they got the same phone call a million times that weekend. I believe it was Treble who posted the ratings that weekend - it was something like 550k on Friday on SN, 25k Saturday on SN1, 600k Sunday on SN.

I was just thinking about this the other day, as a matter of fact, as I was also thinking of upgrading to a 250gig model. I may be dating myself here, but when I left retail at the end of 2008, a transfer cable was the holy grail of Xbox products - not sold in stores, only available via 1-888-4MYXBOX (and I don't think I need to explain what a gong show that number was).

FWIW, a jump drive did the trick for me when I was housesitting, though it did need to be formatted upon first use.

I'm on what I think is my sixth. Two RROD's, one replacement that I traded in towards new (the obviously refurbed they sent me didn't have HDMI out).....yeah, I gotta get on the 250gig. I played Kinect Adventures about a month ago (my first Kinect experience whatsoever), and I couldn't believe how much fun it was.

Transfer cables should be no problem to find. They don't come with a disc anymore, but the latest firmware has the functionality built in, so the disc isn't even used anyway.

I'm on I think my 4th. One died a strange death. One RROD that got fixed and works great and I gave it to my friend because I'd already bought one with the bigger harddrive. And then I had expiring Best Buy rewards money so I used them to get the slim version. So 3/4 are still working!

Giving it some thought we actually have has two RROD at some point, as I forgot that Ms. Smues had that happen to hers before we lived together. It was a launch era one and it RROD'd within like 2 weeks of getting it. Didn't even have to send it to Microsoft though, Walmart exchanged it and the other has worked fine since.

You best bet for a phat 360 is get one made after 2009 and has a HDMI port with the 12.1a voltage. They have the Jasper motherboard which fixed the RROD... as long as you treat it with respect.

Yep got it from EB with the system, everything was a simple move.

That's good to know; in fact, it'll probably put the buying wheels in motion. Thanks!

Good stuff!

Now the idea of seeing game on-sale for digital download / "games on-demand" is appealing since I have the space for it.

Remember, if you are moving stuff to another system, don't get rid of the original one, or at least write down the serial number and any other information, which you'll need here:

xbox.com/drm

Not an edit: Huh, you used to have to do this on the web. Now you can do it right on the Xbox. Well, disregard my whole post.
