Talk To Me doing $20 Million less domestically is both hilarious and so damning of Haunted Mansion.

Oppenheimer has to be a great surprise considering the subject matter and length as it's topped $300 Million domestically off a $100 Million budget ($850+ Million worldwide). More impressively, its sustained itself well after the Barbenheimer initial craze too.

Being attached to Barbie certainly helped and is probably why it's so huge, but I also think Nolan is a big draw in his own right. His films feel like events and always seem to do well. Tenet was a bomb, but even that did 365 million worldwide during the Summer of 2020, which is pretty big all things considered.

The most important thing they did here was not being idiots and trying to explicitly market itself as the alternative to Barbie. Many dummies would have tried that approach and been foolish to do that.

They recognized the trend and buzz and rode alongside Barbie.

Oh for sure. It should easily do over a 100 million opening. Maybe 150 or more. The sky's the limit. She's like the closest musician we have to a Elvis or Michael Jackson. This Eras tour is humongous.

"Bottoms" didn't get much of a drop, and is probably gonna end up one of the years cult favorites. I'm probably wrong, but outside of TMNT this feels like the first time in a while that capeshit in the top 10 wasn't doing good in the Box Office.

Man those Conjuring Universe movies are more successful than the DC Movies. This movie looked so generic and I'll probably just not watch it. The third Conjuring movie stunk and there's been more misses than hits.

I considered seeing it since one of the co-writers of "M3Gan" and "Malignant" also co-wrote this, but I decided to watch stuff on Netflix and Blu-Ray instead.

There's definitely an audience for them much like the ongoing Saw movie franchise so... good on the audience that enjoys these movies.

Scorcese remarked, “It should be one cinematic culture, you know? But right now everything is being fragmented and broken up in a way,” he said, alluding to streaming platforms changing moviegoing habits. He noted that when he was growing up “not everybody liked musicals. Not everybody liked westerns. Not everybody liked gangster films or noirs. But at the time, we just went to the movies, and that’s what was playing.”

I get what he's saying but I also kind of feel like there's a bit of cherrypicking there as movies have still done big in the face of videogames, streaming, etc. I think the price adjustment is also a big factor: "The average ticket price in 1969 was $1.42. Adjusted for inflation, that ticket would cost $10.14 in 2019 dollars," and "According to movie data site The Numbers, movie ticket prices have doubled since 1996, 25 years ago. The rise flattened in the past three years, at $9.19 for 2019, 2020 and so far this year. The increases in the two years before that were modest. The price of a ticket in 2018 was $9.11 and in 2017 was $9.87."

People aren't going to the movies just random entertainment, it's to see a specific movie (sometimes multiple times) and with more movie options/prices in mind, selectivity is going to be a bigger weighing factor than it was in the 1950s-1970s.

Next week has Expend4bles. Ugh I hate the way they title sequels these days. I'm hoping it hilariously bombs, but it's probably number 1.

The last one didn't do very good in the box office, so who knows. If anything, the last several years of action movies ("John Wick", most of the Indonesian ones, some of the action comedies, some direct to streaming and direct to video ones-I could go on really) make this seem even more pointless. I'll take stuff like "Nobody", "The Night Comes for Us" and several Scott Adkins vehicles over it any day.

Also, I know he's in it because he's a part of the franchise, but you just know Jason Statham want's nothing to do with this. The man's become a more bankable star, so he probably wishes he was somewhere else.

Seems like he's part of the franchise more out of obligation/friendship with Stallone than anything else. The film could do well if it goes back to its lower $80-$85 Million budget of the first but odds are it'll be around $100 Million and again struggle to get to just 2X box office. EDIT: The-Numbers says its budget is $100 Million again.

The first 2 did pretty well because it was legitimately about the star power and all these "action" people coming together in an All-Star Movie stunt casting. The 3rd did well internationally but really struggled domestically (opened to $15.8 Million, and made just over $39 Million total).

I can't imagine much of a market being out there for this one. I could see it opening to $10-$15 Million by virtue of it being an opening weekend but I think it will do similar to, if not worse than the 3rd.

It's already opened in China and did just $10.74 Million on opening weekend there.

I'm more curious how The Creator does on 9/29 because that movie is getting pushed HARD. I've seen more commercials for that than any movie since maybe Barbie/Oppenheimer.

I have a feeling "Saw X" and "Paw Patrol" will overshadow it, as they are more well known properties.

The Nun II assuming a similar budget around $20-$25 Million as the 1st movie has already made a shade under $174 Million worldwide so it's just rolling in profit right now.

Horror has a shot to lead the box office 5 weeks in a row. Saw X seems to have more buzz than the series has had in years for some reason (I guess Jigsaw's "return" is the draw even though he was in the 2017 movie) and I think The Creator is gonna be a big disappointment. Then the week after, Exorcist Believer will probably be number 1.

Outside of I think 6, I'm pretty sure every "Saw" movie has been a hit (hell part 6 likely made it's money back considering they don't cost much to make.)

Expendables seems to make its money overseas. First two were fun, 3 had a bit of stunt casting. Can’t see what the appeal for 4 is supposed to be.

I think having something something called “The Expendables” where no one seems expendable is also a bit of a shrug. They’ve probably killed a thousand or so bad guys already, and I think the only member of the team lost was a new guy at the start of the second movie.

Yeah Liam Hemsworth.

Randy Couture making it throughout the entire franchise is so baffling.

Also, "The Blind" is a biopic about Phil Robertson from "Duck Dynasty", and I'm honest to God surprised the theater in town didn't get it.

I feel like Paw Patrol and Saw X (especially getting closer to Halloween) will remain solid until Taylor Swift annihilates everything.
