Now here is where im going to shit on my own philosophy.

I want Op Racoon City, and will probably play the death out of it online. Zombies are fun. But i dont like the COD zombie mode.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

Because it was cheap and I hate myself, I picked up MW3. The single player is as Michael Bay-ish as ever where I can't even distinguish between friend and foe when fighting the Russians, though the missions in Africa are much easier to figure out (shoot the black people).

Of course the first multiplayer match I play the lowest level person was like 50. They still don't get it, do they?

What don't they get? They sell more games than anyone and dominate online play by a wide margin.

That brand new players really shouldn't be thrown to the wolves right off the bat and their matchmaking system still fucking sucks?

Maybe once they stop breaking their own records they'll worry about that I guess.

I'm always way behind everyone in rank but it's not a hard game to rank up quickly in.

Well, they're probably going to have to start "getting it" soon. Apparently MW3 has sold less than Black Ops.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

If that's true it can only be because Black Ops has been out longer. It had a bigger day one, first five days and month of sales.

Edit: And it made a billion dollars faster than anything ever released game or movie.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

The stat that I read said it was something like 5-10% lower based on the same time period. IE: Both games were out in November (2010 and 2011) and by this point (March/April the following year) in the shelf life Black Ops had sold more.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

I honestly really like the changes they made to multiplayer. Having the guns themselves level up to unlock attachments (since I usually just stick to a few guns) and the addition of the Support killstreak rewards really fit more into my playstyle. I still end up at like a 0.40 kill/death ratio, but I'm still unlocking more stuff.

I just discovered Special Ops. Never played it before, but it's really fun. It's like Multiplayer, but without the annoying 12 year olds who are too good at the game.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

So Black Ops 2 is coming out November 13 and it will feature a "near-future 21st Century Cold War where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare."

I think "near-future warfare" has replaced WWII as the trope overused by shooters.

Watch some Chris Smoove videos on YT. They're entertaining, funny, and he gives really good tips about MW2 and MW3 even when he doesn;t do it intentionally. Just by watching them, I feel like I could do some things in MW3, and I don;t even own a PS3 or 360 yet.

EDIT: and I am not a fan of FPS games at all, and I feel like that.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

Damn, I just despised multiplayer on Black Ops. It might have been my lower connection speed, but it really felt like I could not put enough bullets into anyone to knock them down, even if I still ended up with like a .8 K/D, which was much higher than my MW2 one (though MW2 was the first FPS I ever played, so I had a REALLY rough start of things).

MW3's multiplayer isn't so much about horrible matchmaking, but there are plenty of maps that can be dominated by spawn point rather than real skill. Then again, I run in a group that plays mostly Domination, but if you aren't going to balance the maps for all types of gameplay, then don't include them in every playlist. I mean, Interchange is a shitstorm if you are playing with even remotely intelligent people and you are stuck on the A side. Black Box is awful if you are at the bottom of the hill spawning. Hardhat blows if you are stuck on C, while Dome is a pain if you are stuck with only A or only B. Village, well, don't even bother with A on that thing. Even if I spawn on that side I don't even go near it. I've played games with the team scores in the 50s before A was taken because it's a deathtrap. Mission sucks with A, Arkaden sucks with C. Almost every map has a disadvantage based on which side you get randomly given. The only ones I can say that don't are Downturn and Bootleg, with maaaybe Liberation, Overwatch, and Piazza not being too unbalanced, haven't played them or the two newest ones enough yet.

Infected is quite awesome, though.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

I HATE Downturn. It's nothing but blind corners and getting it from every direction. Every map seems to have a No Man's Land where you better be damn sure where everyone is or you won't make it two steps.

I also learned that if you see a bunch of people with the same clan tag, RUN.

I've been a fan of the zombie mode, but it needs a new wrinkle to it, and it according to Treyarch they are going to go more in depth with the zombie mode, so I am eager to see what direction they take it.

It's also sometimes good to check the lobby leaderboards to see if anyone is ranked obscenely high. Since people can reset their stats sometimes level is deceiving. The secret of Downturn, for me, is to pick one area and stay there as much as possible. I am always running around above the craters along the center lines. Not a lot of people tend to look there when they rush out in the open.

I agree. As much fun as the mode is, the horde mechanics do get a bit tiring. I'd love to see a zombie campaign added on as well. Or something similar to L4D and Operation Raccoon City where you have to fight other players but also have to contend with hordes of zombies.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

for all the camping/defensive play that a gametype like Domination gets, I remember back in November and December being just blown away by how much I saw people just sitting around in TDM. I have gotten to the point where I really can't just go in and play by myself (except maybe Kill Confirmed) because if I just jump into a game at random I get mercilessly slaughtered because my team will feature three people camping back and sniping and at least one asshole spawning at, say, the C flag and running straight for A even if the team is already controlling B. I know it's called "Domination", but it's so much more beneficial to play to win rather than to play to dominate completely. It also causes spawn problems that can completely fuck over good strategies.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

That reminds me. The group of friends I usually play with almost exclusively play Domination. I've never seen them play any other modes, except for the new ones that came with Black Ops (Wager and Gun Game). I'm not sure why they do this as I always thought it was kind of weird not to even just try out any of the other game types..

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

My favorites for MW3 are Domination, Kill Confirmed, HQ, and Infected. I'm one of those assholes that runs to different points at Domination, though, but that's mostly so I don't get off'd by somebody I just killed when they respawn who now knows my position.

Also, fuck airstrike/helicopter/EMP bullshit. It's annoying as shit.

Yeah, I was so glad when they got rid of the game ending Nuke for Black Ops. Did that make it back into MW3? I didn't play it long enough to find out.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

I *think* there's something similar to the nuke in MW3 - the MOAB. I'm not sure if it's an automatic game-ender, but every time I've seen it used, the game has ended; that said, it could just be that every time I've seen it used, that person was already near 1500 (I mostly just play Free-For-All because I suck) and that just put them over the top.

I did recently start playing some of the team games, but, as mentioned, I kinda suck at the game, and I always end up being the worst person on my team, which makes me feel like a jerk. Still fun though.

On Zombies - really curious to see if/how they change it up, but I hope they don't stray far from the core of "Kill Zombies, get points, get better guns/perks, kill more Zombies". Part of the reason I enjoy it so much is that it's so much like an arcade-style game. I do find the maps get kinda tedious once you know all the ins and outs and can get to about level 30 or so, but it usually takes me a while to be able to do that; I can usually play Kino until I get bored of killing Zombies, I can do it with Ascension maybe, 50-60% of the time, but I've never done it with Five by myself. Had some awesome runs with it on Multiplayer though.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

Jesus.. apparently day-one pre-orders for BO2 were TEN TIMES that of BO1 and 30% higher than MW3.

IGN said:
Amazon has revealed that day one pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops II are ten times pre-order numbers of the original Black Ops on its first day of availability. In addition, pre-orders are also 30 percent higher than Modern Warfare 3's day one pre-order numbers.

I'm pretty excited for this, and not just because I loved the first one, and not just for zombies. I love that they're changing the feel of it by taking the warfare into a future time that hasn't happened yet (or isn't right now). It's just enough sci-fi, but not so much as to turn it into a clone of Syndicate or a multiplayer Deus Ex (which would've been awesome, btw).

Oh, I agree 100%. Whatever they do, I hope they still have the standard/classic Zombies mode in there.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

The MOAB isn't a game ender, but it kills fucking everything and acts as an EMP as well. It gives the map a yellow haze for the duration of the game and makes it even harder to see shit.

I'm the worst player out of all my usual playmates, but some of them have over two months more real play time in FPS games than I do. We mostly play Hardcore Domination, just because while you might get put down way easier, it's also way easier to put others down. I quite enjoy the ACR with a Hybrid and a Silencer. I can be quite a dick on both sides of Lockdown (a map I used to really fuck hate). Otherwise I run around like a jerk with the PM901 and always carry some sort of launcher on my back, usually the RPG (since I used a prestige point to unlock the fucker). Remember kids, in Hardhat, control the middle but watch out for grenades from just about every angle, because the roof is open to the sky.

I really haven't been on my 360 much at all in the last two months. I need to get back in the spirit and shoot some shit.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

When I look at k/d ratios between myself and my friends.. I am easily the worst on the team. But I also play other stuff and don't spend much time "honing skills" in FPS games.. I think about 4 out of the 6 guys I play with ONLY play COD on their system. That's it. No other games owned except MW2, Black Ops, MW3...
