So I'm still playing this solely for the zombies mode. It's really fun, to me anyway. I still haven't picked up the 3rd DLC, but there's another one coming down the pipe (Aug 23 on 360) that is ALL zombies (including the remastered maps from WAW that were included with the hardened edition on release).

There are some things I've seen about MW3 so far that have me slightly dreading playing multiplayer, including but not limited to a sentry-style grenade launcher killstreak reward, a grenade launcher similar to a Thumper (but with a SCOPE), and the 9-bang, which seems designed to be more annoying than anything else.

I think I'm pretty much done with these games, to be honest. I'm keeping Black Ops solely for Zombies, and that's about it. Haven't touched MP mode in ages. I'm not sure how they do it, but I have a group of friends who ONLY play MP on Black Ops (and I'm sure it'll be the same with MW3).. and by only I mean that's the ONLY game they play. They never play anything else on their PS3s.. it's kinda sad that they're voluntarily missing out on so many other great games just to play the same shit over and over again.

Is this thread for Battlefield series as well? Do we really need a separate thread?

I wasn't even going to get a FPS in this next round, but after playing the demo for BF3, I am convinced that if I do take the plunge it is going to be Battlefield and not MW3.

While really fun, I wouldn't necessarily say BF3 will be better, but the key factor for me is that it is different. I just feel since going with COD all these years, I have basically had a very similar experience each time, and I don't really see where MW3 is going to be enough of a new experience.

BF3 has a different feel to it.

I'm going to pick up MW3 first since I know what to expect. The multiplayer is down to a science, but it's only a matter of time before every exploits certain glitches/unbalanced classes. I actual like the single player campaign of the COD games. Sure it might be cheesy, but that's why we play video games: to do crazy shit.

As for the BF3 demo, I'm not sure how I feel about it. It looks great, but I had a really hard time determining if I was looking a friend or an enemy. I might get used to it after a few rounds.

The best in the Battlefield series has been Bad Company 2, which was basically Battlefield's take on MW, soooo...

It's worth it for campaign alone. The controls are revamped to be more like the COD series instead of the BF series (so a lot of "aim down your sights" stuff, which makes combat easier), the humor of the first Bad Company campaign is toned down but still there, and the maps are much better.

I had BF2 for ages and only recently started playing multiplayer. Looking forward to 3 since it's supposed to look amazing, not looking forward to launching the game from a web browser only though (PC version).

So far I kind of suck at BF3 multiplayer unless I am playing the role of a sniper, but I think it is just part of the adjusting to a different style...the controls are similar but I noticed a couple minor changes that were screwing me up, however I'm sure they can be modified in the controls menu most likely.

Am I the only one that finds the Mountain Dew double XP promotion for Modern Warfare 3 kinda disgusting? Basically you buy Mountain Dew products that have codes you enter online in order to get double XP for a certain period of time. I know you still have to play the game to level up, but it just seems kind of wrong to me. I already have problems with the playing field for CoD games not being very level (though I admit I might just suck at it); this just seems to make it worse.

Picked it up last night at a midnight launch. Played it for about an hour or so before I had to go to bed. Stupid work in the morning. Anyways, I played through the first mission which was shown off at E3. Also played one round of multiplayer. After playing Bad Company 2 for the last few weeks, I forgot how quick and fluid the Call of Duty games are. Feels like more of the same, but that isn't a knock by any stretch.

I didn't know this was also a Battlefield thread.

I was playing TDM in Operation Firestorm (which if it's the same on PC as it is on consoles, as the PC version has bigger maps, is the one with the warehouse-to-warehouse action), actually managed to get about a 7 or 8 killstreak as an Assault. Nice of them to file up single-file like that.

I pre-ordered MW3 a couple of weeks ago but failed to show up at 6 last night to finalize payment and realized it wouldn't make sense for me to go to the midnight launch when I had to get up at 6:15 this morning to get ready for work.

What are the odds I no longer have reserved copy?

So apparently the single player is another 4-5 hour playthrough. Why do these games even bother with single player modes anymore? Battlefield and COD should just remove these campaigns altogether and blow out the multiplayer. Why pay $60 for a mode you are going to finish in one or two sittings?

It might be short...but it's actually pretty damned awesome so far.

I didn't really like BF3 based on the demo alone. Still not sure I want MW3 though. As of this week I am 3 games in the hole, Arkham City, Uncharted 3, and now BF3/MW3.

This. I actually like the story of the entire MW series, and I think a lot of COD/MW fans do as well. How else would you explain the popularity of Ghost and how people were legitimately excited that he may return somehow for MW3? He was just a side character who had no development at all, like Gaz in the first one, but fans loved him.

Also? The G36 (pictured below; a beautiful assault weapon that was common to find in COD4:MW but taken out of MW2 for the UMP45) is back. Using that bad boy to cut down some Ultranationalist Russian troops in the catacombs of Paris was amazing.

lg_g36c.jpg

This is the G36C you had in the first MW, typically used by Gaz and found more during the Russian levels. Note how it appears to be a real-life blend of an MP5 (which makes sense since it's the same manufacturer, Heckler & Koch) and the M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens.

I think people just liked Ghost because he had a fun mask.

Haven't gotten this yet, and probably won't anytime soon. The multiplayer loses its luster for me after about a month, so this is the ideal borrow-from-a-friend game for me. #4 felt revolutionary since it was such a huge leap from all other shooters at the time, but I don't think the series has made much in the way of progress since the initial "wow."

I think it's also the tightness of the gameplay as a whole. It certainly says something that the explosive popularity of MW and MW2 lead to other FPS games to adapt their own version of the "aim down your sights" snap in/out targeting.

Took me 11 and a half hours to beat it on Veteran while collecting all the intel (none of it was out of the way though and I think I only died once collecting one so it didn't really add time).

I think it can be beat on regular in about 4 though since I died...alot.

I've had this for about a week on 360, but decided to take a break from Skyward Sword and give it a go. I just finished the sub infiltration, and damn it was a lot of fun!

When did this bickering between CoD and BF3 fans start? Over at Gamefaqs, Gamesradar and IGN you'd think it was fans of rival sports teams bitching over who's team has the better coach. "BF players are NOTHING like MW players!" "Go play your little fantasy FPS, I'm gonna stay here and enjoy a more mature, realistic experience!" Gamers are some fickle bastards.

It started way back between MW2 and around Bad Company, man. I remember Bad Company fans trashing MW2 fans and hyping up Bad Company 2, only to be disappointed when Bad Company 2 ended up being more like the COD series than the BF series but not nearly as tight as the Infinity Ward games.

Black Ops 2 is listed as releasing November of this year.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/01/spanish-retailer-lists-call-of-duty-black-ops-2-for-november/

I wonder how long before gamer fatigue sets in with this franchise. I bought MW3 (well got it for free via trade ins) but I only played it once. Enjoyed Black Ops much more (Zombies). That being said, I still would rather see continued support and DLC for the original Black Ops over a sequel. I could go 2 or 3 years before even caring about or wanting a new game in this series.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

I finished the campaign in MW3. Got my ass kicked online and haven't touch it since. I always loved the Michael Bay'esk campaigns, but the multiplayer is almost too popular to the extent that you always find a boat load of people who can kick your ass every match. It just wore me out.

Yeah, that's mainly why I only touch the zombies mode in Black Ops now. Granted it's "horde mode" and never-ending.. but still fun to work with people instead of against them. I found that even in "regular" multiplayer, if your playing with random team mates, it's a coin toss as to whether they will actually work with you or just run out there doing stupid shit.

I always find myself wanting the latest COD game, but end up renting as FPS games have no real longevity unless you are a diehard online player.

The single player campain can be mastered in around 8hrs if you are semi decent and ive never found myself being able to replay a FPS besides maybe Goldeneye or Bioshock.

Re: Call of Duty Game Thread

Honestly, I only played MW3 twice. Thankfully I got it for free when I traded in two older games, and if history is any indicator, I should be able to get a good amount for it when I trade it in for something else. Thinking of doing that this week (along with Uncharted 3) as a pre-order for Operation Raccoon City.
